What to Expect During Your Initial Consultation

Your first visit is an exciting step toward a healthier, more confident smile. It is also our opportunity to get to know you. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we focus on understanding your unique needs and goals.

This initial consultation is completely complimentary. During this visit, you will meet our board-certified orthodontist and our friendly team. We want you to feel informed and empowered to make the best decision for your oral health.

During your first visit, we will:

  • Review Your History: We will go over your dental and medical history forms to understand your overall health.
  • Comprehensive Exam: The doctor will perform a complete oral exam, including digital X-rays and photos, to determine if treatment is necessary.
  • Customized Plan: If treatment is recommended, we will create a personalized plan tailored specifically to you.
  • Financial Clarity: We will discuss insurance options, flexible payment plans, and affordable financing so you know exactly what to expect.

We encourage you to ask questions. Whether you are curious about clear aligners or traditional metal braces, we provide honest guidance to help you choose the right path.

Starting Your Treatment

Once you have decided on a treatment plan, you are one step closer to the smile you have always wanted. We know life is busy, which is why we offer Same-Day Starts for many of our patients. If you are ready, we can often place your braces or scan for clear aligners immediately after your consultation.

If you prefer to schedule for a later date, we will find a time that works best for your calendar. This appointment generally takes about an hour. During this time, our team will ensure you are comfortable and fully educated on how to care for your new appliance.

Regular Check-Up Appointments

Orthodontic treatment is a journey we take together. To ensure your treatment stays on track, you will visit our Santa Maria office every six to ten weeks.

These appointments are typically short—about 20 to 40 minutes. During these visits, the doctor will:

  • Check your progress.
  • Adjust your braces or provide your next set of clear aligners.
  • Answer any questions you might have.

We respect your time. Our scheduling system is designed to run efficiently so you can get back to your day.

Handling Life’s Surprises

We understand that life happens. If you are running late or need to reschedule, simply give us a call. We will do everything we can to accommodate you.

If something breaks or feels uncomfortable between visits, please contact us immediately. We will help you determine if you need an emergency repair appointment or if the issue can be resolved at home.

Don’t Forget Your Dentist!

Even while you are undergoing orthodontic care in Santa Maria, it is vital to continue seeing your general dentist. We recommend maintaining your regular cleanings and checkups every six months. Healthy teeth move faster and result in better outcomes!

Frequently Asked Questions About Office Visits

Do I need a referral from my dentist to schedule a visit?
No, you do not need a referral! You can contact Explore Orthodontics directly to schedule your complimentary consultation. We are happy to coordinate with your dentist if needed, but you can start the process on your own.

How long does the first appointment take?
Plan for about 60 minutes for your initial consultation. This allows us enough time to take diagnostic records (like X-rays), perform a thorough exam, and discuss your treatment options and financial plan in detail.

Will the first visit hurt?
Not at all. The initial consultation involves an exam, photos, and X-rays. It is completely painless. If you choose to start treatment the same day (getting braces on), there may be some mild discomfort afterward, but the process of putting them on is generally pain-free.

Do you offer appointments after school or work?
Yes, we understand that families have busy schedules. We offer flexible scheduling options to accommodate work and school commitments. Please let our scheduling coordinator know what times work best for you.
